The Gate

The Gate is a multi-functional community arts centre in the heart of Cardiff. Sculpted from a historic listed building, it is a facility for expression and training in a variety of arts disciplines.

Recently named by Cardiff University’s student magazine Quench as one of Cardiff’s 50 ‘undiscovered gems’, The Gate is a real treasure chest of inspiration for the local community.

At The Gate, we pride ourselves on the sheer variety of creative and vibrant events happening throughout the year – whether your taste is classical music recitals, contemporary theatre productions or original art exhibitions, we believe there is something for everyone at The Gate.

The Gate plays host to more than 30 regular classes, aimed at introducing babies, children, young people, families and adults to the arts and well-being.
These include singing, writing, exercise and many styles of dance. These classes cater for varying degrees of ability and make use of The Gate’s large and beautiful theatre space and studios.

The Gate also houses a popular café in the day, where you can relax in the stylish surroundings with a cup of coffee and some homemade cake, and in the evenings it transforms into a café bar, where you can sample a range of wines and beers from around the world, and join in the Monday night Quiz or Games Night, Thursday night Open Mic, and Tuesday night Jazz, Science, Philosophy and Theology Cafés.
